Painting The Town Red…For A Cause
Imagine a room full of 500 beautiful women all dressed in red and enjoying each other’s company as well as heart-touching entertainment.
This was the setting at the “100 Sisters In Red” event that Yvonka originated in Cleveland as a way to raise awareness for heart
disease among African American women. The idea caught on and soon similar 100 Sisters In Red events were held in neighboring Ohio communities
and other national cities. Yvonka plans to use her $5,000 grant from Cheerios® Sisters Saving Hearts to help fund another Sisters In Red
event. Yvonka is the Northeast Ohio Director of Cultural Health Initiatives for the Cleveland-area American Heart Association/American Stroke
Association. She has been recognized with numerous awards for her innovative community based programs that have touched thousands of women’s
lives.
