Connecting Sisters To Better Health
Deborah serves as a vital link to friends and neighbors in her role as president of the Fairfield County Chapter of Links, Inc., in Connecticut. Comprised of 34 African American women, the chapter is actively making a difference in the lives of Fairfield County residents by promoting heart-healthy lifestyles through its "Your Link To Health" initiative. Numerous fundraisers and events from a kids’ art contest to fashion shows to a modern tea – have been orchestrated by Links members to spark awareness for heart disease and to address the unique health concerns that disproportionately affect people of color across Fairfield County. The chapter specifically reaches out to those women and children who are underserved and in need of health care resources. Under Elam’s leadership, the $5,000 Cheerios® Sisters Saving Hearts grant will help expand the “Your Link To Health” programs in Fairfield County.
