Winning With Time, Talent and Love
Heart disease prevention is a cause that Cynthia keeps close to her heart after seeing her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother lose their lives to the fight. After relocating to North Carolina from the Midwest, Cynthia realized there was something missing when it came to raising awareness for heart disease among African Americans in her Wilmington, NC community. The information just wasn’t being disseminated. Through her time, talents and love, she’s played a leading role to help spread the word and create change. For example she helped launch “From Our Heart to Yours,” a proactive initiative to educate women of color on keeping their hearts healthy. The 2007 Cheerios® Sisters Saving Hearts grant will help cover costs associated with planning the annual “From Our Heart to Yours” luncheon hosted by the New Hanover County Community Action, which will feature informational literature, giveaways and inspiring speakers.
